Al Ain manager said that wasn’t in his best form after losing Al Wahda in the UAE Super Cup.

Emirati giants Al Ain lost to Al Wahda on penalties in the UAE Super Cup that took place in the Air Force stadium in Cairo.

Egypt international Hussein El-Shahat had a poor display during the game and missed a penalty during the shootout which saw them lose 4-3.

However, Al Ain manager Zoran Mamic came into the defense of the 26-year-old, saying: “Hussein El-Shahat wasn’t in his best form but he wasn’t bad.

“I am not bothered that he missed the penalty, there are big players who miss penalties,” Mamic added.

El-Shahat was also included in the 13 foreign-based players list to face Niger in the 2019 AFCON qualifier.

“It is great that El-Shahat gets to play in his country in front of his family and the Egyptian fans and I think he would be very happy if he had won the Super Cup but this is football,” he concluded.

Egypt will face Niger on September 8 in the second round of the qualifiers of African showpiece event. The Pharaohs occupy the last place in Group J, which includes Tunisia, Niger, and Swaziland, after losing the first round encounter against Carthage Eagles 1-0 in Rades in June 2017.
