Zamalek suffers first league loss as Nogoom FC down The Whites 1-0
Nogoom FC defeated Zamalek 1-0 in the fourth fixture of the Egyptian Premier League.
Zamalek started the game aiming to reach the tenth point in order to top the league table with the same points as Al Ahly and Pyramids.
However, Nogoom FC started on the front foot as Egypt’s Veteran defender Mahmoud Fathallah’s freekick went over the bar in the second minute.
The Whites responded quickly as Bahaa Magdy’s cross found Kabongo Kassongo inside the box, but his header went just wide.
Salah Amin managed to break the deadlock in the 27th minute, as Amr Naguib passed the ball to Amin, who dribbled past Zamalek’s Mahmoud Alaa and finished the ball brilliantly past Mahmoud ‘Gennesh’.
It is worth mentioning that this is Amin’s sixth goal against Zamalek increasing his personal record.
Zamalek intensified their pressure in order to level things up.
Youssef ‘Obama’ nearly scored the equalizer in the dying moments of the first half, but Nogoom’s goalkeeper Ahmed Saad put in an excellent save to deny Zamalek the equalizing goal.
Obama once again came close to scoring in the 56th minute, but his header went just wide off the right post.
20 minutes before the fulltime whistle, Zamalek wasted another glorious chance as Kassongo headed Tarek Hamed’s accurately crossed freekick, however, the woodwork saved Nogoom FC’s net.
The newly promoted side nearly secured the three points in the 87th minute following a howler from Gennesh, as Amin dribbled past him but his poor shot went off target.
This is Nogoom’s first ever win in the Egyptian Premier league. While, the Whites suffered their first league loss this season.
Following the match, Zamalek sits fifth with seven points and are set to face ENPPI on the first of September.
Meanwhile, Nogoom FC occupy the eleventh league spot with five points and will face Ismaily on the 31st of August.
