Carteron: No excuses against Kampala City
Al Ahly coach Patrice Carteron has stressed that they will not look for excuses when they face Kampala City FC in the final round of the CAF Champions League group stage.
Al Ahly will line up against the Ugandan side in the sixth and final round in Group A at Borg Al Arab stadium on Tuesday. The Red Devils lead the group jointly with Esperance de Tunis with 10 points but have the head-to-head advantage.
Carteron’s men made a remarkable comeback in the Champions League after collecting a single points from the first two group stage rounds under former coach Hossam El-Badry, winning their successive three games, and would confirm their group leadership with a win over Kampala.
“I followed Kampala well, we will not look for excuses or blame the fatigue because we want to win,” Carteron said in a press conference.
“We are going through a rotation phase to avoid injuries and all the players are enthused to earn a starting spot in the lineup. I trust all the players to overcome this difficult period and their capacity to grasp the new playing style.”
“Mo’men Zakaria was a starter with me in the previous period, I trust his abilities and hope that he regains his form quickly. Excluding players from the squad is to help them avoid fatigue and injuries. I haven’t asked for new signings, I am currently thinking about the current squad and how to make them improve.”
