Senegal forward M’Baye Niang joins Stade Rennais on loan
Senegal international M’Baye Niang has joined Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais on an initial loan with an option to buy from Torino.
The 23-year-old forward spent last season on loan at Torino from AC Milan, and the Turin-based club had to sign him on a permanent basis as the deal between both clubs included an obligation to buy the player.
Niang managed to score four goals in 29 appearances, which made Torino prefer to loan him out to Rennais, with the French club having an option to sign the player permanently for €15 million.
This marks Niang’s third spell in France after the Senegalese spent time at SM Caen and HSC Montpellier before, and he is now hoping to revive his career in the country where it all started for him.
He began his career at SM Caen before moving to the San Siro in 2012, but he has endured a difficult time at AC Milan, spending most of his spell there on loan at Montpellier, Genoa, Watford, and Torino.
Niang becomes Stade Rennais’ sixth summer signing after deals for Jordan Siebatcheu, Clément Grenier, Romain Del Castillo, Jakob Johansson, and Damien Da Silva.
Rennais currently sit 13th in the Ligue 1 table with four points after three rounds and their next game will be against Bordeaux on Sunday, September 2.
