Ittihad of Alexandria eliminate titleholders Esperance from Arab Championship
After a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Alexandria, Ittihad unexpectedly secured a 2-2 draw in Stade Olympique de Rades in Tunisia which helped the team eliminate Esperance and qualify to the next round.
The Tunisian club scored the opener only seven minutes after the first whistle, but Ittihad’s Khaled Amar was able to send his side back to the game quickly in the 20th minute scoring an equalizer.
Just before the first half ended, the Alexandria-based club unexpectedly took the lead in the 44th minute thanks to Mohamed Kandil’s goal before Cameroonian midfielder Franck Kom scored the second goal for the Blood and Gold.
For the remaining time of the game, Esperance failed to score a third goal and Ittihad were able to successfully proceed to the round of 16.
