Ahmed Gomaa excluded from Egypt camp due to injury
Egypt coach Javier Aguirre has decided to exclude Al Masry striker from the Pharaohs squad for their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Niger due to injury.
Egypt will face Niger on September 8 at Borg Al Arab stadium in the second round of 2019 AFCON qualifications. The seven-time African champions had lost their first group stage game against Tunisia in a 0-1 debacle.
Gomaa was one of the local-based players summoned by Aguirre for the game for the Niger game. However, it appears that the 30-year-old striker is struggling with cramps in abdominal muscles. Al Masry’s medical staff confirmed the injury to their counterparts in Egypt via a medical report.
With Gomaa’s injury, Egypt will head to the Niger match with Salah Mohsen and Marwan Mohsen as the team’s strikers.
New Olympiacos striker Ahmed Hassan Koka had also withdrawn from the squad after sustaining a muscular injury and was replaced by Al Ahly forward Marwan Mohsen.
