Aguirre discloses he voted for Salah for FIFA Men Player of the Year award
Egypt coach Javier Aguirre has revealed that he cast his vote for Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, Atletico Madrid hitman Antoine Griezmann and Real Madrid hero Luka Modric for FIFA Men Player of the Year award.
Salah was nominated for FIFA’s The Best Men’s Player of the Year award alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric. The 26-year-old was also in contention for UEFA Player of the Year award but he came third behind Ronaldo and the accolade winner Modric.
“He [Salah] is a player who has been the center of attention of all people. He is being compared to players like Messi, Ronaldo and Modric. What is to be applauded for a player like him is his humility,” Aguirre told Radio Marca.
The 59-year-old Mexican coach stated that he chose Salah, Griezmann and Modric as his top three for the FIFA’s best player of the year, however it was five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo who entered the final short-list in Griezmann’s place, the thing which Aguirre expressed his surprise about.
Aguirre has been appointed as Egypt’s new national team manager back in August following the dismissal of the Pharaoh’s former coach Hector Cuper.
“Cuper closed a cycle with Egypt. I also had interest from South Korea but I agreed to train Egypt as it was a very nice opportunity and there is an interesting project to work on.”
