VIDEO: Tunisia retain top spot in group J with Swaziland victory
The Eagles of Carthage were drawn in group J alongside Egypt, Swaziland, and Niger. They started their campaign with a 1-0 home win over the Pharaohs in June 2017.
And on Sunday, they managed to secure another three points, beating Swaziland 2-0 at the Mavuso Sports Centre in Manzini.
Taha Yassine Khenissi, who scored the winner against Egypt, opened the scoring in the 17th minute, before FCO Dijon winger Naïm Sliti doubled his side’s lead 20 minutes later.
Wahbi Khazri had the chance to get on the scoresheet, but his last-minute penalty was saved by the Swaziland goalkeeper.
The game also witnessed the feature of Al Ahly and Zamalek duo Ali Maaloul and Hamdi Nagguez, who played the full 90 minutes for Tunisia.
The win put Tunisia top of the group with six points, three more than second-placed Egypt, who beat Niger 6-0 on Saturday, while Swaziland and Niger sit third and fourth respectively with only one point.
Tunisia will host Niger in their upcoming game next month, with Swaziland travelling to Alexandria to face the Pharaohs at Borg El-Arab.
