Egypt draw 1-1 against Finland in Day 1 of their tie in Davis Cup

have ended Day 1 of their tie against on par after each team managed to prevail in one of the two singles matches played in the third round of ’s Europe/Africa competition.

The meeting between Egypt and Finland is being held on two days, September 14 and 15, and is taking place at El Gezira Sporting Club in Cairo on clay outdoor.

The first match was between Egypt’s and world’s no. 191 and his Finnish opponent Emil Ruusuvuori. Safwat succeeded in grabbing the win with two clear sets, winning by 6-4 and 7-6.

Finland recovered the deficit in the second encounter of the day after defeating Egypt’s with two sets to love through Harri Heliovaara who won 6-3 and 6-2.

The tie is set to continue on Saturday with a doubles match that sees Egypt’s Sherif Sabry and Mohamed Safwat face Finland’s Henri Kontinen and Patrik Niklas-Salminen. The rubber will resume with Mohamed Safwat playing against Henri Heliovaara in a singles meeting, before the tie finale between Karim Maamoun and Emil Ruusuvuori.
