Pharaohs Abroad Roundup: Shikabala makes Apollon Smyrni debut

Ahmed Hegazi – West Bromwich Albion (England)
September 14 – Championship – Ahmed Hegazi played the full 90 minutes as West Bromwich Albion drew 1-1 against Birmingham City in the seventh fixture of the Championship. Jota took the lead for Birmingham in the 27th minute, however, Matthew Phillips scored the equaliser in the 39th minute. Following the match, the Baggies occupy the fifth league spot with 11 points and will face Bristol City on September 18.
Trezeguet – Kasimpasa (Turkey)
September 14 – Turkish Super Lig – Galatasaray beat Kasimpasa 4-1 in the league as Trezeguet was subbed off in the last few minutes of the game. In the first half, Galatasaray had more of the ball but couldn’t find the net. In the 56th minute, Derdiyok scored the first goal for Galatasaray. Two minutes later, Rodrigues doubled the lead for Galatasaray. In the 66th minute, Rodrigues scored his second goal of the game to make it harder for Kasimpasa to comeback. In the 76th minute, Diagne pulled one back from a penalty. Towards the end of the game, Aziz scored the fourth goal for Galatasaray. Kasimpasa now sit second on the league table with 12 points and will next face Alanyaspor on September 23.
Mohamed Atwa – Al Raed (Saudi Arabia)
September 15 – Saudi Pro League – Atwa was an unused sub as Gomis and Abdulrahman scored their first Al Hilal goals in a 3-1 win over Al Raed. The French striker opened the scoring in the first-half before Abdulrahman doubled the advantage, just before half-time. Hammoudan got Al Raed back into it soon later, but the result was sealed in the 56th minute when Carlos Eduardo scored from the spot. Atwa will be looking to play a part in Al Raed’s next game against Al Wehda next Saturday.
Shikabala – Apollon Smyrni (Greece)
September 15 – Greek Super League – Shikabala made his debut for Apollon Smyrnis as they fell to a 2-1 defeat against PAS Giannina in the third fixture of the Greek Super League. Shikabala was subbed in to replace Gonzalo Gonzalez on the 60th-minute mark when his side were 1-0 down. Seconds after he was introduced, the visitors made it 2-0 through Alexandros Nikolias, before Hilal El-Helwe scored a late consolation goal. The Egyptian also received a yellow card in the dying minutes of the game. Apollon’s next encounter will be away against Asteras Tripolis on the 22nd of September.
Ahmed Elmohamady – Aston Villa (England)
September 15 – Championship – Ahmed Elmohamady played 77 minutes as Aston Villa drew 1-1 with Blackburn Rovers in the seventh fixture of the Championship. Bradley Dack took the lead for Blackburn in the 76th minute, but Conor Hourihane equalised for the Villans in the dying moments of the game. Following the draw, Villa sit 12th with 10 points ahead of their home clash against Rotherham United on September 18.
Ramadan Sobhi – Huddersfield Town (England)
September 15 – Premier League – Ramadan Sobhi was excluded from squad as Huddersfield Town lost 1-0 against Crystal Palace in the 5th fixture of the Premier League. Wilfried Zaha’s goal in the 39th minute was enough to secure the full three points for the away side. Following the loss, Huddersfield occupy the 17th league spot with two points and will face Leicester City on September 22.
Mohamed Elneny – Arsenal (England)
September 15 – Premier League – Egypt’s midfielder Mohamed Elneny remained on the bench as Arsenal defeated Newcastle United 2-1 in the Premier League’s fifth fixture. Following the win, the Gunners reached the ninth point and now occupy the seventh league spot. They are set to face Vorskla on September 20 in the Europa League.
Karim Hafez – Basaksehir (Turkey)
September 16 – Turkish Super Lig – Karim Hafez was excluded from Basaksehir squad as the Istanbul outfits cruised a 4-0 win against Antalyaspor in the fifth fixture of the Turkish Super Lig. Hafez joined the Turkish side this summer to complete the series of loans since joining the Belgium side Lierse SK. However, the Egyptian is yet to make his debut with his new club. Following the victory, Istanbul Basaksehir now sit third on table with 12 points, and their next game will be against Bursaspor on September 21.
