Al Ahly to face Al Hilal KSA for Egyptian-Saudi Super Cup
The Egyptian Football Association and Saudi Football Federation have announced that Egyptian-Saudi Super Cup will take place between Al Ahly and Al Hilal KSA in October.
The general secretary of the Saudi Football Federation Loay Al Sebeiy had confirmed in July that a Saudi-Egyptian Super Cup will take place, with Al Ahly and Zamalek facing Al Hilal and Ittihad respectively set as the initial fixtures.
However, Al Hilal issued a statement confirming that the Riyadh giants will not be able to feature due to not finding a suitable timing for the encounter with Al Ahly which led to the Egyptian-Saudi Super Cup to be cancelled, before the Saudi FF decided to bring the idea to life again, which made the Saudi federation to state that Zamalek will lineup against Ittihad Jeddah in Egypt and Al Hilal KSA in Saudi Arabia for the Egyptian-Saudi Super Cup.
However, Al Ahly’s participation was back again on the cards and The EFA and Saudi FF released a joint-statement confirming that the new date set for the game is in light of the 6th of October victory celebrations and the depth of relations between Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
Both countries’ domestic federations asserted that Al Ahly will face Al Hilal on October 6 for President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi Cup in Riyadh, while Zamalek and Ittihad Jeddah will face each other on King Salman bin Abdulaziz Cup in Cairo.
