Jurgen Klopp defends Mohamed Salah after poor run of form
Mohamed Salah has scored only two goals in six games this season and is currently on a three-game goal drought – his joint-longest run without a goal since joining Liverpool.
He failed to score or assist against each of Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur, and PSG, however, that didn’t stop the Reds from maintaining their winning start to the season.
Klopp has defended out-of-form Salah, saying the Egyptian’s current form is only temporary and that he is still a threat to the opponents.
“The defensive side the last two games were outstanding, perfect,” Klopp said.
“It is so important in these games especially. That says everything about him that he is really ready to work for the team in these moments.
“It is a completely normal for an offensive player when you have times that you don’t score. He is still a threat, made fantastic situations in both our last games. He is in a good shape.
“Finishing is something you can never take for granted,” he added.
The German manager was told that Salah had only scored one goal less than at the same point of last season, and he said: “Wow that is a crisis! Nobody remembers that. It is really not a problem.”
Liverpool are currently second in the Premier Leauge table with 15 points from 15, and their next game Southampton on Saturday, September 22 at Anfield.
