Zamalek to face Al Hilal instead of Al Ahly for Egyptian-Saudi Super Cup

The general secretary of the Saudi Football Federation Loay Al Sebeiy had confirmed in July that a will take place, with Al Ahly and Zamalek facing Al Hilal and Ittihad respectively set as the initial fixtures.

However, Al Hilal issued a statement confirming that the Riyadh giants will not be able to feature due to not finding a suitable timing for the encounter with Al Ahly which led to the Egyptian-Saudi Super Cup to be cancelled, before the Saudi FF decided to bring the idea to life again, which made the Saudi federation to state that Zamalek will lineup against  in Egypt and  KSA in Saudi Arabia for the Egyptian-Saudi Super Cup.

Ahly’s participation was back again on the cards and The EFA and Saudi FF released a joint-statement confirming that the new date set for the game is in light of the 6th of October victory celebrations and the depth of relations between Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

But hours later, Al Ahly have released a statement, saying that they don’t mind playing the game if the EFA postpone their games in the domestic league, CAF Champions League, and the Arab Club Championship.

This made the Saudi FF issue another a statement in which they have announced that Zamalek will face Al Hilal instead of Al Ahly on October 6 for President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi Cup in Riyadh, with the Whites also playing against  on King Salman bin Abdulaziz Cup in Cairo.

The competition took place twice before in 2001 and 2003 as the league winners participated in President Mubarak’s Cup Winners’ Super Cup and the cup winners on King Fahd’s League Winners’ Super Cup back then.

Zamalek were the only Egyptians champions for the competition in 2003, while Ismaily were runner-ups twice and Al Ahly once.
