VIDEO: Al Ahly comfortably beat Al Nejmeh to advance in Arab Championship


Al Ahly have booked their place in the round of 16 of the after a comfortable 4-1 away victory against Lebanon’s Al Nejmeh.

After a goalless draw in the first-leg at Borg El-Arab, the Red Devils needed to win with any result to advance to the next round and they managed to do so, easily dominating the away game.

Al Ahly were the better side for the majority of the game and Al Nejmeh’s resistance lasted only for 28 minutes, before Ali Maaloul gave Al Ahly the lead with a left-footed strike into the bottom corner.

15 minutes later, Momen Zakria doubled his side’s lead as his effort around the edge of the box got deflected by Al Nejmeh defender and went past the goalkeeper.

In the second half, Al Ahly were really comfortable in their buildup play, as the fitness level of the Lebanese players couldn’t help them causing Al Ahly any problems.

In the 63rd minute, Walid Soliman added his name to the scoresheet after a brilliant solo run before tapping in the empty net following a miscommunication between Al Nejmeh keeper and his defender.

15 minutes away from the final whistle, substitute Mohamed Sherif secured the win after a brilliant counter-attack, which saw Salah Mohsen putting him through on goal and the winger finished off the move perfectly by slotting the ball under the keeper.

In the last minute of the game, Al Nejmeh managed to score a consolation goal through Mohamed Hassan as his free-kick found El-Shennawy’s net.
