Essam El-Hadary saves two penalties to help Ismaily survive Kuwait scare
Egyptian side Ismaily have booked their place in the round of 16 of Arab Club Championship on Thursday, beating Kuwait SC on penalties.
The Yellow Dragons won the first-leg 2-0 in Ismailia and they thought it will be a walk in the park for them in Kuwait, but it turned out to be the opposite.
The hosts started the game strong and they opened the scoring in the 22nd minute through Gomaa Said. Kuwait had another the chance to equalise in the first-half when they won a penalty, but Saber Khalifa missed the target.
In the 70th minute, Fahad El-Hajari scored his side’s second of the game, making it 2-2 on aggregate which made the game go to penalty shootouts.
45-year-old Essam El-Hadary saved two penalties, while Honsi Abd-Rabo, Tarek Taha, Shokry Naguib, and Richard Buffor scored their penalties to guide Ismaily to the round of 16.
Ismaily became the third Egyptian side to advance to the next round alongside Ittihad of Alexandria and Al Ahly, who beat Espérance de Tunis and Al Nejmeh respectively.
