Patrice Carteron aims for Champions League title, praises Coulibaly
Al Ahly manager Patrice Carteron is determined to guide the Reds to the Champions League title, saying he would do whatever it takes to achieve that.
The Red Devils have qualified for the CAF Champions League semi-finals and will host Algerian side ES Sétif on October 2, before travelling to face them on October 23.
French manager Patrice Carteron has revealed that he targets the title, as Al Ahly aim for their first CAF Champions League title since 2013.
“I know what it means to win the CAF Champions League title. I tasted that before and I want to do it again with Al Ahly”, Carteron told CAFOnline.com.
“I’ve made it clear from the first moment that our target is the title, and that we would do whatever it takes to achieve this dream.
“Everyone at the club knows what’s at stake and will spare no effort to return the trophy to where it belongs,” he added.
Carteron has also praised new signing Salif Coulibaly, describing the Malian as a “true leader” that everyone loves.
The Mali international has been a key player for Al Ahly this season, featuring in all of their domestic and contentinal games.
“I knew well what Coulibaly can add to the team and that’s why I insisted to have him as my first signing here,” Carteron said.
“He trained with me in Mali and Mazembe and I know his capabilities more than anyone. Salif is not just a good defender, he is a true leader. Everyone here loves him.
“In a team like Ahly, we have no first or second string players. Anyone who plays for Ahly must be a good player, and once he gets the chance he should deliver.
“I’m happy with the players I have in my team, and I’m positive together we will reach our target,” he concluded.
