Elneny’s Arsenal to face Blackpool in Carabao Cup fourth round
Arsenal have been drawn against Blackpool at home in the Carabao Cup fourth round after beating Brentford in mid week.
The North London club will host Blackpool who, despite being in the Premier League at the start of this decade, are now the second lowest ranked team remaining in the competition as they are currently 9th in League 1. The only other team in the third tier left in are Burton Albion who are below them in the table at present.
The last encounter between the two teams was in 2011 when Blackpool were in the top flight, which finished 3-1 to Arsenal with goals from Abou Diaby, Emmanuel Eboue and Robin van Persie.
Arsenal will be overwhelming favourites as, on top of the gulf in leagues, the Gunners have not lost to Blackpool since an FA Cup tie in 1970. They have only met once before in the League Cup which resulted in a 5-1 win to Arsenal in 1968.
Blackpool have a few familiar faces to hardcore Premier League fans including Jay Spearing, formerly of Liverpool, and Nathan Delfouneso who played up front for Aston Villa several years ago.
Mohamed Elneny is expected to play a part as he has featured consistently in Arsenal’s cup games so far this season, including a start in their 3-1 win over Brentford.
The full draw is as follows:
While the date of the fourth round tie is unconfirmed, it is expected to take place towards the end of October.
