Moruf Yusuf extends Zamalek contract, joins Iraq’s El-Shorta on loan
Zamalek have extended the contract of Nigerian midfielder Moruf Yusuf before sending him on a season-long loan at Iraqi side El-Shorta.
The 25-year-old wasn’t named in Zamalek’s squad for this season due to the foreign players’ quota, losing his place to Hamdi Nagguez, Ferjani Sassi, Kabongo Kasongo, and Hamid Ahadad.
This made the club consider naturalizing the player to keep him at the club, but they failed to do so and he will spend the 2018-2019 season on loan at Iraqi club El-Shorta.
However, before travelling to Iraq, Yusuf has been rewarded with a new two-year contract at Zamalek, which will keep him at the club until June 2020.
Ever since his move to Zamalek from Ittihad Al-Shorta in 2014, the center midfielder has been an integral part of the team’s setup despite the several managerial changes the team has undergone.
Moruf Yusuf joined the White Knights from fellow Egyptian side Ittihad El-Shorta in the summer of 2014 and since then he has played 133 matches for them, scoring seven and assisting 14 times.
He was part of the Zamalek team which achieved the domestic double in 2015, and managed to win the Egypt Cup two more times as well as lifting the Super Cup once.
