Al Ahly’s Walid Azarou called up to Morocco Squad
Herve Renard has decided to call on Azarou to complete the list of attacker called up to the Moroccan national team squad after much anticipation following a season where his goals guided Al Ahly to a consecutive league title as well as the CAF Champions League semis.
Azarou finished as top scorer of the Egyptian Premier League in 2017/2018 season with 18 goals scored. He earned a call-up last March from Renard but wasn’t summoned to the World Cup.
Azarou is currently second top scorer in the CAF Champions League with Al Ahly scoring four goals. They will be playing today against Algerian team ES Setif in the semi-final first leg in Egypt.
Morocco will be playing against Comoros home and away in the African Cup of Nations Qualification stage. Renard will be looking to secure two wins against Comoros who have been struggling in the qualifiers.
The 23-year-old previously featured for the Atlas Lions on five occasions, his last a 28 minute cameo against Uzbekistan in a friendly last March.
