Tunisian side Espérance sack manager Khaled Ben Yahia
Tunisian side Espérance have sacked manager Khaled Ben Yahia two days following their 2-0 away defeat to CS Sfaxien in the Tunisian Ligue 1.
Yahia was only appointed to the role last February, guiding the club in 23 games, winning 12, drawing six, while losing five.
He helped them lift the league title last season, as well as reaching the semi-finals of this year’s CAF Champions League, where they lost to Angolan side 1º de Agosto 1-0 in the first-leg.
However, the Sunday loss left the club in the seventh place in the Tunisian league, six points behind leaders CS Sfaxien, CA Bizertin, and Stade Tunisien.
They also were eliminated from the Arab Club Championship in the round of 32 by Egyptian side Ittihad of Alexandria.
Assistant manager Moïn Chaabani has been placed in temporary charge of the first team and will lead them in the remainder of the CAF Champions League.
The Tunisian club will play two games in the league, before hosting 1º de Agosto in the return-leg of the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League.
In case they qualified for the final, they will face either Egypt’s Al Ahly or Algerian side ES Sétif in the final.
