Al Ahly defender Ali Maaloul ruled out for three months
Al Ahly’s left-back Ali Maaloul has been ruled out of action for three months after the injury he picked up against ES Steif, the club have confirmed.
The Tunisian is one of Al Ahly’s key players, having scored once and assisted five times in Al Ahly’s CAF Champions League campaign this year.
He picked up a groin injury against Algerian side ES Steif in the first-leg of the semi-final of the CAF Champions League, which Al Ahly won 2-0 at El-Salam stadium.
While he will not require surgery, Maaloul will be ruled out for three months, meaning he will miss the remainder of the Champions League campaign even if Al Ahly reached the final.
Ayman Ashraf and Sabry Rahil are the ones expected to feature in the left-back position during Maaloul’s absence, with Egypt international Ashraf more likely to do so.
Al Ahly will travel to Algeria to face ES Sétif on October 23 and they need to win or draw by any result or lose by a one-goal margin if they want to qualify for the final.
