Madagascar qualify for first ever Africa Cup of Nations
After 18 failed attempts since 1970, Madagascar football team made history claiming their spot in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations for the first time after the team defeated Equatorial Guinea in the fourth round of the qualifiers.
Madagascar managed to secure 10 points after four rounds with three wins and one draw. They currently lead Group A in which they compete with Senegal, Sudan and Equatorial Guinea.
Second-placed Senegal are yet to face Sudan, but with only two rounds left Madagascar secured a spot for the Africa Cup of Nations next year given that Equatorial Guinea are in third place with only three points while Sudan failed to snatch any points yet.
Thailand-based midfielder Njiva Rakotoharimalala scored the winning goal four minutes before half-time in the city of Vontovorona making his country the first team to reach the 2019 AFCON.
