FC Mauerwerk owner hopeful Meteb joins team, in talks to sign Ahmed Ali
Meteb hung up his boots and announced his retirement from football at the age of 35 back in July of this year, explaining that he was forced into taking this decision by Al Ahly former manager Hossam El-Badry.
El-Nemr previously stated that Mauerwerk’s technical advisor Hassan Shehata recommended the signing of the former Al Ahly no. 10 and that he will be meeting him to discuss a potential return. However, Meteb responded by saying that it’s a matter that requires to be considered thoroughly.
“I hope that Meteb accepts joining us. He is the historic goal scorer for Egypt and Al Ahly, Hassan Shehata told me that he would shine here in case he gives his consent,” El-Nemr told Al Ahly TV.
“We don’t compete in a strong league in Europe and Meteb would be a great reinforcement in our pursuit for second division promotion then Premier League one in order to book a place in Europa League or Champions League spots.”
“The league rules cites that only three non-European players can participate in matches but we are allowed to register up to 10 foreigners, so that won’t be a hurdle in our aims to sign Meteb.”
Mauerwerk’s owner concluded his talk by revealing that his club has entered negotiations for the acquisition of in-form Arab Contractors striker Ahmed Ali, who has scored five goals in nine games thus far in the Egyptian Premier League.
