Wigan midfielder has reflected on Egypt’s qualification for the 2019 AFCON and praised his compatriot ahead of the Latics’ clash with West Brom.

The Pharaohs have secured their place in the 2019 AFCON in Cameroon following back-to-back victories against eSwatini, which saw Morsy feature for a couple of minutes in the away game.

It marked his seventh international cap since being called-up for the first time in 2016 and the Wigan skipper had something to say about his international duty and the qualification.

“Qualifying is a brilliant feeling. We picked up two great results and it was a very good training camp because it was a good opportunity for me to meet the staff and the staff to meet me,” Morsy told Latics Listen.

“It was a really positive camp. We’ve called up a lot of young players recently and the manager has revamped the squad, it’s really positive times for Egypt.

“I believe I’m going to get a good chance after speaking to the manager on several occasions.

“International matches are always really exciting and I always feel refreshed when I come back.

“I’ve done it for a couple of years now and travelling is part and parcel of that commitment. It’s a huge privilege, it doesn’t last forever and whilst you play for your country you just have to give it your best shot,” he added.

“He (Ahmed Hegazi) is a brilliant guy and a brilliant player, he’s Premier League quality without a doubt and I’m looking forward to playing against him,” Morsy said.

“I was picking Hegazi’s brain about West Brom in general and he spoke about the coaches they have and how they implement the style Darren Moore wants them to play.

“They’re a club going in the right direction for sure, so we’re going to have to be at our best, but as I’ve said in the past, playing against better opposition brings the best out in us,” he concluded.
