VIDEO: Zamalek overcome Wadi Degla in six-goal thriller
Zamalek have continued their fine form with a 4-2 victory over Wadi Degla in the 12th round of the Egyptian Premier League.
The Whites entered the game in second place with 17 points from eight games, while Degla were 13th with 11 points from 11 games.
Christian Gross’ men were the more dominant side at the start of the game, wasting a number of chances through Kasongo, Kahraba, and Obama.
However, Wadi Degla were the ones to open the scoring, when Ibrahima Ndiaye tapped in Vasilios Bouzas’ low cross into the empty net.
Seven minutes later, Kahraba equalised for Zamalek after a howler from Mohamed Abdel-Monsef, before Ibrahim Hassan put Zamalek into the lead three minutes before the half-time.
In the 60th minute, Ferjani Sassi managed to win a penalty for Zamalek, which was converted by Mahmoud Alaa, and three minutes later, Obama made it 4-1 after a great assist from Kasongo.
Wadi Degla were awarded a penalty in the 80th minute after Bebo was tackled inside the penalty area, which saw Zamalek defender Mohamed Abdel-Ghany receive a second yellow card.
Ibrahima Ndiaye stepped up and converted from the spot to score his second of the game, but that was not enough as his Zamalek managed to hold on for a 4-2 victory.
Zamalek are currently top of the league with 20 points from nine games, while Degla remain 13th with 11 points from possible 36.
The Whites will host Haras El-Hodood on Monday, November 5, while Wadi Degla will be up against Ismaily on Wednesday.
