Al Ahly boss Carteron optimistic ahead of Champions League final
Al Ahly head coach Patrice Carteron said that his side’s squad includes players who can compensate for the club’s several absences ahead of the CAF Champions League final clash against Esperance.
The Red Devils were recently hit with a two-match suspension for team striker and key player Walid Azarou due to unsporting behaviour during the Esperance clash, in addition to a 20,000 USD fine to the club.
However, Al Ahly were able to secure a vital two-goal lead in the first-leg clash that took place in Alexandria and will now need at least a draw or a 1-0 loss to clinch the title on Friday, November 9 at Stade Olympique de Radès.
“We’re well prepared for the game and focused on snatching the cup in Tunisia,” Carteron told the press on Wednesday. “We have the needed solutions to compensate for the absences we’re currently facing. For example, Mohamed Hany can replace injured Ahmed Fathi.”
Carteron did not expand on Azarou’s suspension and said that the staff were keen on preparing all players in the past period both technically and mentally so they’re fully focused during the game.
“I would like to thank fans traveling to Tunisia to support us. I am honored to be leading Al Ahly and winning the title is the only thing I am thinking about right now,” he concluded.
