Zamalek, Al Masry discover CAF Confederation Cup opponents
Egyptian sides Zamalek and Al Masry have found out who they will face in the first round of the 2019 CAF Confederation Cup.
Both clubs will not take part in the preliminary round due to their high rankings, and instead will start their campaign from the round of 32.
Al Masry have qualified for the tournament after finishing third in last year’s Egyptian Premier League table, and managed to reach the semi-finals of the 2018 Confederation Cup, before losing to AS Vita 4-0 on aggregate.
The Port Said-based club will face the winner of the encounter between Burkina Faso’s Salitas FC and Wakirya AC of Guinea in the first round.
Meanwhile, Zamalek, who were knocked out of the first round of last season’s Confederation Cup by Ethiopia’s Welayta Dicha, reached the competition after finishing fourth in the league and winning the Egypt Cup.
They will be up against either of Togo’s league runners-up Gomido or AS CotonTchad of Chad in the first round of the competition.
Both teams will host the first-leg in Egypt on 14/15/16 December, before travelling to play the return-leg away on 21/22/23 December.
