Aguirre stresses on Tunisia game significance, bypasses Walid Soliman’s international retirement
Egypt boss Javier Aguirre has emphasized on the importance of Egypt’s game against Tunisia in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers even though the Pharaohs are guaranteed to participate in the prestigious African tournament.
Egypt will host Tunisia at Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria on Friday with the Pharaohs’ sights on finishing off their qualifiers’ campaign on the top of the group which would be advantageous in the draw.
Egypt hold the second place with nine points after four rounds, behind Carthage Eagles who lead the group obtaining the full mark from their four fixtures.
“The Tunisia match is very important at this stage, we want the three points to hold the group’s leadership which is our desire,” Aguirre said in pre-match press conference.
“We respect Tunisia but our only goal is to win even after securing qualification. We always play to win.”
Al Ahly playmaker Walid Soliman announced on Wedensday his international retirement “in order not to cause embarrassment to everyone”, but the Mexican coach preferred to ignore speaking on the matter.
“I don’t speak about a player who is outside the national team, I am only focused on the present players. I can’t call 20 new players all at once. I have to call players gradually to maintain the team’s structure.”
