Al Ahly boss Patrice Carteron names CAF Champions League squad
The Reds have reached the final of the competitions two years in a row, losing the title in both times to Wydad Casablanca and Esperance de Tunis.
They will start the new campaign from the first round and will face the winner of the clash between Ethiopia’s Jimma Aba Jifa and Djibouti Télécom in mid-December.
Carteron, who will remain in his position despite the CAF Champions League final loss, has named a similar squad that took part in 2018 tournament, but left a number of players out.
Momen Zakaria, Sabry Rahil, Akram Tawfik, Bassem Ali, and Ahmed Hamdy were dropped from the squad, while Ahmed El-Sheikh, Ramy Rabia, Amr Gamal, and Amr Barakat also failed to make the cut.
Nigerian winger Junior Ajayi was also excluded as he will not be fit for the first rounds due to his long-term injury, but he is expected to be registered in January.
The only new name that has been registered in the squad is Mohamed Sherif, however, Carteron can still add seven new players in January.
Goalkeepers: Sherif Ekramy, Mohamed El-Shennawy, Ali Lotfy.
Defenders: Ahmed Fathi, Mohamed Hany, Salif Coulibaly, Saad Samir, Mohamed Naguib, Ali Maaloul, Ayman Ashraf.
Midfielders: Hossam Ashour, Amr El-Sulya, Hesham Mohamed, Karim Nedved, Islam Mohareb, Mohamed Sherif, Mido Gaber, Ahmed Hamoudi, Nasser Maher, Walid Soliman.
Forwards: Walid Azarou, Salah Mohsen, Marwan Mohsen.
