Elmohamady dismisses links between Tunisia game and CAF Champions League final
The most highly anticipated match in the African club football calendar is the CAF Champions League final. In this year’s installment, Al Ahly were defeated by Esperance de Tunis in a matchup between arguably the biggest clubs from Egypt and Tunisia respectively.
As a result, the upcoming AFCON 2019 qualifier between Tunisia and Egypt appears to be a meaningful one, despite being a dead rubber in terms of effecting qualification. However, Ahmed Elmohamady has rubbished claims that it will play a part.
“We are playing in the name of the Egyptian national team, and there is nothing to do with Al Ahly and Esperance in tomorrow’s game,” said Elmohamady. “The Al Ahly and Esperance match is over and the team is bigger than anything.”
“I respect the manager’s point of view, and my chances were poor with Cuper but now I have the incentive to book my place with Aguirre.
“Aguirre offensive method is a way that the players and the fans like too. The first game of Tunisia was difficult and we lost to a clean goal, now that the technical management has changed our morale is high,” he added.
Egypt host Tunisia tomorrow at 6 PM Egyptian time, with the opportunity to overtake Tunisia in the group with a win due to the Pharaohs’ superior goal difference.
