Egyptian-Saudi Super Cup postponed due to El-Khatib’s health problems
The Cairo giants have announced earlier this week that club legend El-Khatib is set to undergo surgery on Monday.
The game was set to be played on Tuesday, November 27 at Borg El-Arab after the EFA and the Saudi FF revealed that Al Ahly will play the game instead of their rivals Zamalek.
However, on Friday the Saudi FF have announced that the game will be postponed until further due to the health conditions of Al Ahly president Mahmoud El-Khatib.
Following the Saudi FF’s announcement, Al Ahly released a statement, thanking the Saudi side and wishing El-Khatib a speedy recovery.
Al Ahly were initially supposed to play against Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia in the league winners’ super cup, but the reds withdrew due to their hectic schedule.
Egypt Cup winners Zamalek played the game instead and won 2-1, thanks to strikes from Hamdi Nagguez and Kabongo Kasongo.
Despite Zamalek announcing that they will still take on Ittihad Jeddah in the cups winners super cup, the EFA and the Saudi FF have revealed that Al Ahly are the ones who will take part in the game.
