Egypt goalkeeping coach Ahmed Nagy revealed that Al Ahly keeper Mohamed El-Shennawy is the Pharaohs’ best option for protecting the net due to his vast experience.
Nagy has admitted that El-Shennawy is a great goalkeeper and he is the first choice keeper for Egypt, claiming that Al Ahly’s dramatic loss in the CAF Champions League final wouldn’t affect the player’s performance.
“I’m always in contact with El-Shennawy both before and after the matches and certainly he has been subjected to difficult situations more than once and was able to overcome them all,” Nagy told ONsport.
“He also has the experience and the serenity to be able to play any game, he is the goalkeeper of Al Ahly and the Egyptian team.”
Nagy has also praised the player’s heroic performance against Tunisia saying, “El-Shennawy had the best save of the game and parried away a clear chance for Tunisia, and the scoreline was a draw before Egypt scored the winner in the last minute.”
Mohamed El-Shennawy has been Egypt’s national team first choice goalie for the past few matches and was first tested by Hector Cuper in the friendlies ahead of World Cup 2018, the keeper was also named man of the match on his FIFA World Cup debut against Uruguay.
Egypt currently second on the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifying table level with Tunisia in the points gained (12) but the Carthage Eagles leading on goal difference. Both teams have one game left to play against Niger and eSwatini.
