Mohamed Salah may leave Liverpool for trophies, says Egypt boss Aguirre
The Mexican manager was appointed as the Pharaohs boss last August, and has since won every game he took charge of, as well as guiding the Pharaohs to the 2019 AFCON.
He revealed his wishes of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup, but said that it’s too early to talk about that, adding that he is only focusing on the 2019 AFCON.
“I am here to participate in the World Cup for the fifth time, after two times as a player and two times as a manager,” Aguirre told ONSport.
The 59-year-old managed Mexico in two World Cups, 2002 and 2010, and was eliminated from the round of 16 in both tournaments.
“I take it one step at a time and I can not think about four years from now. My current goal is to build a strong base for Egypt to help us in the AFCON and then qualify for the World Cup.
“The negotiations with Egypt did not take long. I took over the national team in only two minutes.
“I had no idea about the Egyptian Premier League, but now the team has chemistry and they are doing what I want,” he added.
Aguirre was asked about Mohamed Salah’s future with Liverpool, and he answered: “Salah may leave Liverpool in a season or two if he does not win trophies.
“Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp knows that very well and that’s why they are working hard to win trophies,” he concluded.
