Carteron bids farewell to Al Ahly fans, apologises for Champions League loss
Dismissed Al Ahly coach Patrice Carteron has expressed his affection towards the Red Devils’ fans following his sacking as the first team manager on Thursday.
Al Ahly had sacked Carteron following the Reds’ elimination from the Arab Club Championship after they fell to a late 1-1 draw to Emirati side Al Wasl, which knocked them out of the Arab Club Championship after a 2-2 draw at home.
A week prior, Al Ahly were also unsuccessful in the CAF Champions League final for a second successive year after losing 4-3 on aggregate to Esperance Sportive du Tunis to miss out on the chance of winning the 9th African major silverware.
“Dear fans, my friends. It’s hard for me tonight to tell you how much I love you, from deep down my heart,” Carteron wrote on Twitter.
“I have been living a dream that came true with you, forgive me for not getting you the [Champions League] cup. I wish you all the best, yalla Ahly.”
The 48-year-old French manager took over Al Ahly last June, replacing Hossam El-Badry, and guided them to the CAF Champions League final, which the Reds lost to Esperance.
