John Antwi becomes all-time foreign top goalscorer in EgyPL history
John Antwi managed to score a hattrick when his side defeated ENPPI 4-3 to surpass former Zamalek, Smouha and Tala’a El-Gaish Ghanaian striker Papa Arko, the former foreign top goalscorer with 61 goals.
Antwi’s first goal against ENPPI came in the 33rd minute after translating Eric Traore’s cross. In the second half, the Ghanaian forward scored his second goal and his side’s third goal in the 50th minute.
Twelve minutes after scoring an equaliser, the 26-year-old player snatched the fourth goal for Misr El Makkasa from a penalty kick.
This season, Antwi managed to score six goals, two goals behind Zamalek’s defender and the league’s top scorer Mahmoud Alaa.
Antwi first started his career in Egypt through Ismaily in late 2012. He later moved to Saudi Arabia to play for Al-Shabab FC, before returning to Egypt joining Cairo giants Al Ahly.
However, the forward’s spell with the Red Devils did not work well and he was loaned twice to Misr El Makkasa, then the club decided to activate their option to buy the player and made the deal permanent in July 2018.
Antwi scored 28 goals with Ismaily, three with Al Ahly and 32 with Makkasa.
