Al Ahly suffer third loss in row following Arab Contractors defeat
Al Ahly fell to a 0-1 defeat to Arab Contractors in the 16th round of the Egyptian Premier League at Al-Salam stadium, suffering their third loss in a row.
In the first half, despite Al Ahly’s domination, the Red Devils failed to pose a threat on Arab Contractors defence line and were not able to translate their control to serious chances.
Al Ahly’s first attempt was in the third minute when Walid Soliman sent a cross from the left side to forward Salah Mohsen who was unsuccessful in reaching the ball.
Mohsen suffered a thigh injury after trying to control the ball and was forced off the field, leaving Marwan Mohsen as the team’s only forward.
In the 19th minute, Walid Soliman made another attempt as he sent a blast from the edge of the box that went close to the left post.
Arab Contractors were close to opening the score sheet in the 41st minute following a counter-attack that gave Taher Mohamed a chance to fire a low shot, but Al Ahly goalie Sherif Ekramy blocked the ball with no trouble.
Taher Mohamed was at it again, in the second half in the 51st minute, when his side took advantage of a mistake made by Nasser Maher. Mohamed was able to send a shot from the box but Ekramy’s touch and the post saved Al Ahly from conceding a goal.
Eight minutes before the game ended, Arab Contractors substitute Ahmed Ali escaped Salif Coulibaly’s man-to-man marking and sent a shot with his left foot to open the scoring sheet.
The remaining minutes were not effectively used by the Reds despite a strong shot from Ahmed El-Sheikh in the 89th minute and a strange shot from midfielder Mohamed Sherif in the dying minutes, who went one-on-one with Arab Contractors goalie, but his shot went by the right post.
