VIDEO: Tarek Taha’s wonder strike earns Ismaily narrow win over Le Messager
Egyptian outfit Ismaily have beaten Burundian side Le Messager 1-0 away from home in the round of 64 of the CAF Champions League.
This was Ismaily’s first Champions League game since 2010 as they qualified for the tournament after finishing second in the Egyptian Premier League last season.
And they celebrated the occasion with a tough 1-0 away victory, thanks to Tarek Taha’s powerful left-foot free-kick in the 56th minute.
Taha became the first Ismaily player to score in a CAF Champions League tournament since El-Moatasem Salem’s strike against Al Ahly in September 2010.
Both sides had a number of chances to score more goals, but they settled for the result, which made Ismaily close to secure their place in the round of 32.
Ismaily were without the services of team captain and vice-captain Hosny Abd Rabo and Mahmoud Metwally as well as Mohamed El-Shamy and Essam El-Hadary.
The Ismailia-based side will host Le Messager at home next week and will need to win or draw by any result in order to qualify for the next round.
If they managed to do so, they will face the winner between ASF Bobo Dioulasso of Burkina Faso and 2008 CAF Champions League runners-up Coton Sport.
