Pharaohs Abroad Roundup: How have Egyptians abroad fared this week?
KingFut rounds up the Pharaohs Abroad action this week to keep you up to date with Egyptian players overseas.
Abdallah El-Said, Mohamed Abdelshafy– Al Ahli (Saudi Arabia)
November 30 – Saudi Pro League – Mohamed AbdelShafy and Abdallah El-Said played the full 90 minutes as Al Ahli draw with Al Fayha 1-1 in the Saudi Professional League. El-Said provided Syrian striker Omar Al-Somah with the assist as he scored his side’s only goal of the game in the 69th minute. Then two minutes into added time Argentine midfielder Jonathan Gomez scored the equalizer. Following this result, Al Ahli are currently third on the Saudi Professional League table with 23 points. They will face 13th placed Al Raed in their next game.
Karim Hafez – Istanbul Basaksehir (Turkey)
December 1 – Turkish Super League – Basaksehir’s Karim Hafez lost 1-0 to Sivasspor at home as Hafez watched from the bench. The game’s only goal came in the first-half through Demir after being played in by Torje. Basaksehir are still top of the league and their next match will be against Adana Demirspor in the cup on December 5.
Ramadan Sobhi– Huddersfield Town (England)
December 1 – Premier League – Ramadan Sobhi was an unused sub as Huddersfield ended their good run of form as they lost to Brighton 2-1. Zanka opened the scoring for Huddersfield through a header. Sobhi’s side were forced to continue the game with 10 men after Mounie was directly sent off. Towards the end of the first-half, Duffy equalized for Brighton from a great header. Brighton eventually managed to take the lead through Andone. Sobhi’s Huddersfield will be playing against Bournemouth away on December 4.
Mohamed Atwa – Al Raed (Saudi Arabia)
December 1 – Saudi Pro League – Mohamed Atwa played the full 90 minutes as Al Raed beat Al Batin 3-1 in the 11th fixture of the Saudi Pro League. Al Raed’s goals came through Ferhan Hasani’s brace and Saleh Al-Shehri, with Jadaan Mohanna scoring Al Batin’s only goal. Following the victory, Al Raed currently occupy the 13th league spot with 11 points.
Sam Morsy – Wigan (England)
December 1 – Championship – Sam Morsy played the full 90 minutes in Wigan’s 1-1 away draw with Bolton Wanderers in the 20th fixture of the Championship. Will Buckley fired Bolton into a seventh-minute lead, before Will Grigg equalised for the Latics with a 25th-minute penalty. Following the draw, Wigan sit 15th with 25 points ahead of their match against Derby County on December 8.
Ahmed Elmohamdy– Aston Villa (England)
December 1 – Championship – Elmohamady played the full match Aston Villa returned back to winning ways as they beat Middlesbrough 3-0 in the Championship. In the 20th minute, Chester opened the scoring for Aston Villa with a great back-heel goal. In the second half, Aston Villa continued dominating as Tammy Abraham doubled the lead after being played in by Bolasie. In the 83rd minute, Whelan scored the third goal with his first touch in the game to pretty much confirm the win for Aston Villa. Aston Villa’s next match will be against Hegazi’s West Brom on December 7 in the Championship.
Mahmoud Shikabala– Apollon Smyrni (Greece)
December 1 – Greek Super League – Egypt international Mahmoud ‘Shikabala’ was left out of the squad as Apollon drew 1-1 with Atromitos. Panagiotis Triadis put Apollon ahead, before Kostas Kotsopoulos equalised, making the two teams share the spoils. Following the result Apollon are currently bottom of the league table with two points.
Amr Marei – Étoile du Sahel (Tunisia)
December 2 – Tunisian Ligue 1 – Amr Marei missed out his side’s 1-1 draw with CS Sfaxein in the match week 11 of the Tunisian Ligue 1. Saddam Ben Aziza broke the deadlock for Marei’s side with 10 minutes left on the clock, however, Mahmoud Ben Salah managed to equalize in the dying moments of the game. Etoile du Sahel currently stand fourth on the table, their next meeting will be against AS Gabes on the 9th of December.
Mohamed Awad – Al Wehda (Saudi Arabia)
December 2 – Saudi Pro League – Mohamed Awad contributed in Al Wehda’s 2-1 victory over Al Nasr in the 11th round of the Saudi Professional League. Al Nasr scored first in the encounter, however, the Mecca-based side were able to turn things around and take over the lead before the full-time whistle with 15 minutes. Al Wehda now sit fourth on the table, they are set for a tougher task next week against Al Taawon on the seventh of December.
Amr Warda– PAOK FC (Greece)
December 3 – Greek Super League – Amr Warda featured as PAOK beat PAS Lamia FC 1-0 in the Super League. Warda replaced Biseswar in the 53rd minute and a minute later, Varela scored the winning goal for PAOK. Warda’s side went down to 10 men after Canas got sent off, but they were able to maintain their lead and secure the three points. PAOK are currently top of the league and their next match will be against AE Larissa December 9.
Mahmoud Trezeguet – Kasimpasa (Turkey)
December 3 – Turkish Super League – Trezeguet assisted the first of a Diagne brace in a 2-2 draw at Fenerbahce. Midway through the first half, Trezeguet picked out the in-form Senegalese striker who made no mistake to break the deadlock. Neustadter and a Cek own goal gave Fenerbahce the lead just before halftime, but Diagne doubled his tally in the second half to secure a point. The result puts Kasimpasa four points behind leaders Istanbul Basaksehir who won this weekend, with their next game in the cup against Menemen Belediyespor.
Ahmed Hassan Kouka– Olympiacos (Greece)
December 3 – Greek Super League – Two first-half goals were enough to secure a win over Panetolikos for Olympiacos. Podence and Guerrero, who are the main sources of Olympiacos’ goals, scored in the opening 25 minutes which proved to be too much of a hurdle for Panetolikos to climb as their 10 men could only muster a consolation goal from Kamara. Olympiacos’ next game is away at Xanthi next Saturday at 3:30 PM Egyptian time, as they are now 2nd in the table and 6 points off of PAOK.
Ahmed Hegazi – West Brom (England)
December 3 – Championship – Ahmed Hegazi played the full 90 minutes as West Bromwich drew 1-1 with Brentford in the Championship. Harvey Barnes opened the scoring for the Baggies in the 77th minute. Then in the 91st minute Lewis Macleod scored the equalizer for the away side. Following this result West Bromwich are currently third on the league table with 35 points, five behind league leaders Norwich City. They will face Ahmed Elmohammady’s Aston Villa in their next game on December 7.
