Ismaily beat Le Messager, reach CAF Champions League round of 32
Ismaily have reached the round of 32 of the CAF Champions League after beating Burundian side Le Messager 3-1 on aggregate.
The Ismailia-based side have managed to win 1-0 away from home, thanks to Tarek Taha’s powerful free-kick, before securing a 2-1 victory at home on Wednesday.
They opened the scoring in the 33rd minute through Emad Hamdi, who converted Nader Ramadan’s cross, putting Ismaily 2-0 ahead on aggregate.
However, Cedric Dafy equalised for Le Messager in the 42nd minute from the penalty spot, before Abdelrahman Magdi restored his side’s lead in 64th minute.
Ismaily will now face 2008 CAF Champions League runners-up Coton Sport of Cameroon, after they knocked out ASF Bobo Dioulasso of Burkina Faso on penalties.
Egypt’s other representative Al Ahly will be up against Ethiopia’s Jimma Aba Jifar in the first round of the CAF Champions League, however, the reds didn’t take part in the preliminary rounds due to their high ranking.
