Egypt thrash Morocco 6-1 in 2018 Beach AFCON opener
Eight teams are taking part in the finals which are being held from 8 to 14 December, with the winners and runners-up qualifying for the World Cup in Paraguay.
The Pharaohs were drawn in group A alongside Ivory Coast, Madagascar, and Morocco. The top two teams will reach the semi-finals, while the bottom two play in the 5th-8th playoffs.
Egypt started their campaign with a big 6-1 victory over Morocco, with goals coming through Abdelrahman El-Shafei, Mostafa Shabaan, Mostafa Abdelmonem, Hassan Hussein, Mostafa Aly, and Mohamed Hassan.
The win put Egypt top of the group ahead of Ivory Coast’s encounter with Madagascar on Saturday.
On the other hand, group B consists of Libya, Senegal, Tanzania, and Nigeria. Libya’s victory over Tanzania put them top, while Senegal are currently second following their penalties victory over Nigeria.
Egypt’s next encounter will be against Madagascar on December 10, before facing Ivory Coast a day later.
The Pharaohs have never managed to win the tournament before, with their best result coming in 2006 and 2011 when they finished third.
