Al Ahly name squad for CAF Champions League opener
Al Ahly interim boss Mohamed Youssef has named his squad that will feature against in the first round of the CAF Champions League.

The Reds will be up against Ethiopia’s Jimma Aba Jifar, who beat Djibouti Télécom of Djibouti 5-3 on aggregate in the preliminary round.

The winner of the encounter will qualify for the group-stages, the round which Al Ahly has reached in the last three tournaments.

Al Ahly squad saw the inclusion of three defenders only due to the injury crisis that his the team’s backline.

Right-back Mohamed Hany is expected to partner Salif Coulibaly in the defence, with Ayman Ashraf starting at left-back and midfielder Karim Nedved at right-back.

Team captain Hossam Ashour has also returned to the squad, while Walid Azaro, Salah Mohsen, Ahmed Fathi, Mohamed El-Shennawy, and Ali Maaloul miss out.

Al Ahly will aim to win the title for the ninth time in their history and for the first time since 2013, espcially after losing the final in the last two years.

The squad:

Goalkeepers: Aly Lotfi, Sherif Ekramy.

Defenders: Salif Coulibaly, Ayman Ashraf, Mohamed Hany.

Midfielders: Hossam Ashour, Hesham Mohamed, Karim Nedved, Mido Gaber, Amr El-Sulya, Islam Mohareb, Walid Soliman, Nasser Maher, Mohamed Sherif, Ahmed Hamoudi.

Strikers: Marwan Mohsen.
