Hosts Egypt eliminated from 2018 Africa Beach Cup of Nations
The tournament is being held in Sharm El-Sheikh from 8 to 14 December, with the winners and runners-up qualifying for the World Cup in Paraguay.
The Pharaohs managed to win all of their group games and qualified for the semi-finals as group A winners, which meant that they had to face group B runners-up Nigeria.
Egypt didn’t have the best of starts to the game, as they conceded two goals in the opening minutes, before Mostafa Sasa pulled one back for the Pharaohs, ending the first-half 2-1 to Nigeria.
Costa equalised for Egypt, before Nigeria managed to score twice again, making it 4-2, but a late goal from Mostafa Samir ensured that the Pharaohs will go into the third half trailing by only one goal.
Nigeria scored the fifth through Abu, before Egypt managed to equalise through Mostafa Samir and Mohamed Abdel-Naby. Both sides scored one goal each in the dying minutes of the game, making it 5-5.
The game was going to penalty shootouts, but Nigeria managed to score the winner, 19 seconds before the end of the game, which secured their place in the final and the World Cup.
Nigeria will face the winner of the Senegal vs Morocco clash, with the losing side to face Egypt in the third-place playoff.
