VIDEO: Ismaily knocked out of Arab Club Championship on penalties
The Ismailia-based club drew the home-leg 0-0 in Ismailia, before repeating the same result in the return-leg in Morocco on Tuesday.
Both sides had a number of chances to score but failed to convert them, with Shokry Naguib missing a one-on-one chance in the 24th minute.
This meant that the penalty shootout will decide who will reach the quarter-finals, and it wasn’t the Egyptian side.
Despite Mohamed Fawzy saving Raja’s first penalty, the Moroccan side were the winners as Hosny Abd-Rabo and Tarek Taha missed their penalties and Raja scored their remaining four.
Ismaily became the third Egyptian side get knocked out of the Arab Club Championship after Cairo giants Al Ahly and Zamalek.
Ittihad of Alexandria is Egypt’s last representative in the competition and will face one of Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal or Al Ahli, Al Wasl of UAE, Raja Casablanca, USM Alger, Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia, and Al Merrikh of Sudan.
