Jorvan Vieira steps down as Ismaily coach after Raja loss
Jorvan Vieira has stepped down as manager of Ismaily manager following the club’s exit from the Arab Club Championship on Tuesday.
The Ismailia-based club became the third Egyptian side get knocked out of the Arab Club Championship after Cairo giants Al Ahly and Zamalek. They lost to Raja Casablanca 4-2 on penalties after drawing 0-0 in both legs.
The club’s board are yet to reveal the name of the new coach, but revealed that he will arrive in the upcoming few days.
Vieira took charge of Ismaily last October following the departure of Kheireddine Madoui. Since then, he led Ismaily in 11 games, winning five, drawing three, and losing three.
He led Ismaily to reach the CAF Champions League round of 32 after beating Burundian side Le Messager 3-1 on aggregate and now they will face Cameroon’s Coton Sport.
However, Vieira has managed to win only two league games as his side currently sit bottom of the league table with 13 points, 22 points behind leaders Zamalek.
The club is also still in the Egypt Cup and will face Ittihad of Alexandria in the quarter-finals after beating Arab Contractors under the guidance of Vieira.
