2018 Beach AFCON: Egypt beat Morocco to secure third place finish
The tournament was held in Sharm El-Sheikh from 8 to 14 December, with the winners and runners-up qualifying for the World Cup in Paraguay.
The Pharaohs managed to win all of their group games and qualified for the semi-finals as group A winners, before losing 5-6 to Nigeria in the semi-final.
This meant they will face Morocco in the third-place playoff, after the latter lost to Senegal in the semis, a repeat of the Pharaohs’ opening game of the tournament.
Mohamed Abdel-Naby opened the scoring for Egypt four minutes after the start of second-half, before Samy Yezel equalised for Morocco three minutes later.
Mostafa Sasa then scored two goals for the Pharaohs, making it 3-1 to the hosts. A Late consolation goal from Nassim El-Hadawi wasn’t enough for the Atlas Lions, as Egypt won 3-2.
This marks Egypt’s third bronze medal in their history after achieving the same result in 2006, 2011, and 2016.
