Angola international Geraldo joins Al Ahly on four-and-a-half year deal
Geraldo is a left-footed player, who can play at both wings as well as at the second striker position.
His arrival means that one of Junior Ajayi, Walid Azaro, Ali Maaloul, or Salif Coulibaly will leave the club due to the foreign players’ quota.
Geraldo started his professional career in 2010 at Brazilian side Coritiba, making over than 60 appearances for them, scoring five goals while assisting once.
The Angolan also had stints at Brazilian sides Paraná Clube, Red Bull Brasil, and AC Goianiense, before returning back to his home country to join 1º de Agosto in January 2016.
He helped the Angolan side reach the 2018 CAF Champions League semi-finals, scoring four goals and providing two assists in 10 games in the competition.
On the international level, Geraldo has made 14 appearances for Angola, making his international debut against Mexico in 2010 and has represented his country in the 2013 AFCON.
Geraldo can’t be registered by Al Ahly in their 2019 CAF Champions League squad as he played for 1º de Agosto in this season’s preliminary round of the competition.
He becomes Al Ahly’s first Angolan player since legendary duo Amado Flavio and Sebastiao Gilberto, who plied their trade at the club between 2002 and 2010.
