VIDEO: Ismaily take first-leg lead against Coton Sport in Champions League
Ismaily have earned a valuable 2-0 home win against Cameroon’s Coton Sport in the first-leg of the first round of the CAF Champions League.
The Ismailia-based club managed to qualify for the first round after beating Burundian side Le Messager 3-1 on aggregate in the preliminary round.
They had to face 2008 CAF Champions League runners-up Coton Sport in the first-round, hoping to secure a place in the group-stages of the competition.
Ismaily dominated the possession throughout the first-half, but had to wait until the injury time to open the scoring as Baher Elmohamady converted Tarek Taha’s cross into the net with a powerful header.
The visitors had a couple of chances in the early minutes of the second-half, but Mohamed Fawzy managed to deal with them.
Karim Bambo was introduced to the game in the 57th minute, replacing Shokry Naguib, and two minutes later he managed to double his side’s lead, brilliantly finishing Elmohamady’s low cross.
The game didn’t witness much action in the remaining minutes as Ismaily managed to secure an important 2-0 victory ahead of the return-leg next week.
