Ismaily defender Baher Elmohammady confirms English offer

Ismaily defender Baher Elmohammady spoke about the upcoming winter transfer window and offers he received from clubs abroad.

Baher Elmohammady grabbed attention with Ismaily and was called up by Egypt national team coach Javier Aguirre.

He recently made his fourth fourth consecutive cap and has repaid the national team staff’s trust after scoring a crucial goal in the hard fought victory over Tunisia to help the team go up 2-1 in the game that ended 3-2 to the Pharaohs.

“I spoke with Ibrahim Othman [Ismaily President] and I told him that I would like to play abroad following the footsteps of Mohamed Salah,” Baher told Sada El Balad TV station.

“He told me that he doesn’t mind but he wants me to make a contribution to Ismaily first. He assured that if an opportunity presents itself he will not stop me from taking advantage of it.”

Baher is a product of Ismaily youth sector and was promoted to the first-team in 2015, before Zamalek manager then Ahmed Hossam Mido brought him on loan in January 2016, however, he failed to make a single appearance during his time at the White Castle and returned to his parent club.

“I am not leaving Ismaily in January even though I received offers from Belgium and England. The club’s President encouraged me to focus on performing well with the team, especially that we’re currently in a good position,” he added.

As for his unsuccessful short spell with Zamalek, Baher said that when he first joined the White Castle he faced a problem with his registration, which took some time and prevented him from playing. Once he was registered, Zamalek faced Al Ahly and lost the game which led the board to sack the coaching staff led by Mido.

“I’m sure I would have got my chance to play if Mido continued leading the team,” he concluded.
