Al Ahly boss Martin Lasarte not worried about first job in Africa
Martin Lasarte held his first press conference after putting pen-to-paper on a one and a half year deal with Africa’s most successful club Al Ahly.
“Al Ahly are one of the biggest teams in the world, one of the clubs that won the most titles. They’re a great club with gross goals and popularity,” were the first words said by the 57-year-old in his first press conference.
“I am here in Egypt to win titles and that will depend on the players’ readiness. The spirit in the team is important, we will all work for the club with the aim of achieving our goals. There is no difference between a big player and a small one. There is no “star” here, the team is what mattters,” Lasarte affirmed.
“We will get on with our jobs as good as we can and if we manage to achieve our goals, we will be very pleased and therefore bringing joy to the fans that love the club. Everyone that trusts me and my staff will be pleased with what we will achieve over the coming period. We have the determination to achieve our goals.”
“Football is worldwide sport and of course I know some things about Al Ahly. I need some time to study the club well but regarding history, they’re a known club. Al Ahly are one of 10 clubs to win titles across the globe. It is a big thing for me and a huge opportunity to take charge of such a big team with such a history and I will not let this chance slip,” said the Uruguayan.
“There were no tactical constraints made clear to me. I am here with a couple of people in my staff and I believe in the idea of belonging, therefore there are two Egyptians on my staff that I can benefit from. I can not make any promises regarding trophies but we will work and fight hard to achieve our goals, that is what I can promise. We need the fans to be patient with the team and we will work hard to make them happy.
“My message to the fans is to be patient and support the team. We need the fans’ energy to achieve our goals, my stint with Al Ahly starts on the 28th of December and I am not worried of working for the first time in Africa,” Lasarte concluded.
