Zamalek to face Moroccan champions in CAF Confederation Cup play-offs
The Whites qualified for this round after thrashing AS CotonTchad 7-2 on aggregate, while Ittihad Tanger were knocked out of the first round of the CAF Champions League by JS Saoura of Algeria.
Both teams were drawn against each other, with the first-leg taking place in Morocco on January 13, before meeting each other in Cairo a week later.
Ittihad Tanger were crowned Morocco’s champions for the first time in their history last season, and this year sees their only second participation in the competition.
They were knocked out of the playoff round in 2017 and will hope they can make it to the group-stages for the first time ever.
Meanwhile, Zamalek’s best-ever performance in the competition came in 2015, when they lost to Tunisian side Étoile du Sahel 5-4 in the semi-finals.
Elsewhere, title holders Raja Casablanca will face African Stars of Namibia, CS Sfaxien will be up against Uganda’s Vipers, while Al Ahly Benghazi, which is led by Egyptian coach Mohamed Ouda, were drawn against NA Hussein Dey of Algeria.
